Harness Racing: Nyack wins on debut

Nyack got his career off to a winning start at Launceston on Sunday night leaving trainer-driver Todd Rattray with a tough decision over where he will head to next.

Rattray’s charge made his debut in the 6ty Two Year Old and caused an upset when seeing off the hot fancy Cheeky Eagle who had to settle for second place. Gypsy Amour came in third.

Cautious approach

With Rattray in the sulky his two-year-old found some room down the home straight and managed to chase down Cheeky Eagle to win by a half-neck.

Speaking to reporters after the race Rattray admitted that he had to adopt a cautious approach with his charge but knew he had what it wakes to get the job done.

“He can put a rough one in every now and then, so I sort of drove him quiet, but I knew he had the ability to go good,” Rattray about the win.

“It was a good effort for what he has done. He only had one trial, so he will learn from it.

“He went a little bit rough on the corner as I was easing out and he just lost the back of Cheeky Eagle, but he always felt like he was going to pick him up in the straight.”

Next assignment

Nyack could now be aimed at the $15,000 Debutante Stakes in Launceston on Easter Cup night, which is 16th April, but Rattray has yet to make a decision.

“I will see how he comes through the run. I want to give him a break soon, whether we do that now or wait for the Debutante, we will decide later in the week,” Rattray added.
