NHL - US Sports: Perry glad to be on Lightning side

Veteran forward Corey Perry says he's enjoying being on Tampa Bay Lightning's side in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, rather than battling against them.

The Lightning have won the Stanley Cup in each of the past two seasons, with Perry a losing finalist in each year with the Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadiens, and 11/5 to three-peat as Stanley Cup champions.

Quick start after big-money move

The Lightning signed Perry in the recent off-season to a two-year, $2 million contract, and his addition has paid dividends with the 37-year-old scoring five goals, and one assist in the 11 playoff games so far.

Over 14 seasons in the NHL, Perry has appeared in 178 playoff games with the Anaheim Ducks, Stars, Canadiens and Lightning. He won the Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2007, his second NHL season, and has reached at least the conference final/league semi-final round seven times.

Impressive start in Tampa

In the regular season Perry had 40 points (19 goals, 21 assists) in 82 games as the Lightning finished third in the Atlantic Division (51-23-8), behind the two teams that they have eliminated from the playoffs so far, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers.

The Lightning will meet the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Final which they are 5/9 to win.

Perry said to the media: "To be here doing it with these guys and to see what actually goes on on a day-to-day basis around here, it's pretty special.

"You can tell in that dressing room that we're still hungry and the job's not done. When I got that call from 'Stammer' (Captain Steven Stamkos) when I signed and he said that, 'We want to do this again. We're not done,' that stuck with me all season long."
