The Newcastle Knights have been boosted by the news star fullback Kalyn Ponga has committed his future to the club by penning a new bumper five-year contract.
The Knights are priced at 100/1 to win the 2022 NRL grand final and Ponga committing will give the whole club a huge boost.
Ponga had a tough decision to make as the NRL’s latest new club the Dolphins were chasing his signature for the 2023 season and beyond.
The fullback even held talks with Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett but has now decided to commit his future to the Knights.
The deal which is reported to be worth $1million a season will run through until the end of the 2027 season.

Knights CEO Philip Gardner saluted the deal and admits it is a huge one for the club.
“Kalyn is a quality person with great family values,” Gardner said. “We are delighted to secure his future and look forward to watching him lead this club for a very long time.
“This signature adds to the forward momentum we are building, giving loyal Knights members and the local community another reason to be excited.
“Kalyn sees the vision and direction we have committed to take for the club. He agrees we have the right coach, appreciates the exciting new facilities, and wants to succeed with the Newcastle Knights.
Ponga himself is delighted that all the speculation can now come to an end and he is free to focus on his footy.
“I would like to thank all of those who have given me the respect of allowing me the space and time I needed to come to this decision,” he added. “I am excited to have it done and now I can get on with contributing to the club and city that I love.”
