Port Adelaide have confirmed Orazio Fantasia is set to undergo further knee surgery in the hope it will put an end to his lingering issues once and for all.
The Power are priced at 9/1 to win the 2022 AFL grand final and will be hoping Fantasia is fit enough to play a key role in the campaign.
Fantasia has already had two operations on his troublesome left knee, but now has issues with his right one after reporting soreness throughout the pre-season.
Rest and rehab has not done the trick and Fantasia will now undergo surgery in Victoria before hitting the road to recovery.
Port duo suffer injury setbacks
No timeline has been put on his return but captain Tom Jonas is hoping for a speedy return.
"Hopefully that all goes well and he can jump into his rehab and we can have him back sooner rather than later," Jonas told reporters on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile Jonas has also been speaking about the after effects of last year's 71-point defeat against the Western Bulldogs in the preliminary final.
And he admits it is hard to say how it will effect the group when the new campaign gets underway.
"It was really important that we acknowledge that game and that we got badly beaten," Jonas added. "The important thing is that we have acknowledged it and we're going to learn from it. But it's not going to be defining for us."
