NRL: Potter demands Bulldogs improvement

Canterbury interim boss Mick Potter says there needs to be some big improvements as the Bulldogs lost 36-22 against Wests Tigers in his first game in charge.

The Bulldogs started the campaign with hopes of making the top eight but currently sit bottom of the ladder with just two wins all season.

Poor discipline

The Tigers looked set to runaway with the game as they lead 18-0 at one point before the Bulldogs came fighting back to reduce the arrears to 18-16.

Potter took heart from the comeback but says there is a lot to work on as the Tigers went on to wrap up the win.

"Our discipline needs to change and we need to rectify that we won't have that many points scored against us," Potter said.
"I thought our defence let us down in the first half and we can do better than that for sure.

"We can''t have 36 points against us. We can't concede barge-over tries on the tryline; that's not up to standard. It's an attention to detail thing. The first port of call is the dummy half and we let him score twice."

Maguire satisfied

Meanwhile Tigers coach Michael Maguire says they will review what went wrong as the Bulldogs fought their way back, but was pleased with the way his side responded.

"We went away from a few things we were doing in the first half," Maguire said. "I always felt if we could get back in control we would get going again.

"We had Jackson go off and a few concussions but we'll look at that period (after halftime). I think our attack is coming along and I think Jock came in for Luke Brooks and did a really good job."
