Premier League Darts - PDC: Night 13 Preview

Gary Anderson's dreams of a third Premier League title are all but over, but he can have a say in Peter Wright's chances of a shot at a first when the two rivals clash in Glasgow.

It's 2/1 Anderson against 2/5 Wright in the pick of the Night 13 quarter-finals, an all-Scottish showdown which will have the OVO Hydro rocking.

It's a big match in itself, however, it also has ramifications for the rest of the campaign, especially for wobbling Wright as he tries to cement fourth place and a play-off spot for Berlin on June 13th.

There are just four rounds of the regular season to go and while Snakebite's five-point cushion over a chasing pack headed by Joe Cullen seems healthy enough, it can soon be whittled away.

Ando hoping for Glasgow boost

Anderson, bottom of the table, three points adrift and 1/3 to leave the competition with the wooden spoon, hasn't won a Premier League match since Night Six.

Incredibly, he has only won matches on two of the 12 nights, reaching the semis on Night One in Cardiff and then beating Jonny Clayton, Wright and Michael Smith to win in Nottingham, almost two months ago.

He boasts an excellent record in Glasgow, where he has won his last five Premier League matches and hasn't lost there since 2013.

But clearly he's going to have to produce something better than normal to derail former World Cup partner Wright, who is stuttering in fourth spot, consistently making semi-finals but not having reached a final since Night Four.

Can Cullen mount late play-off charge?

Wright is 7/2 to win in Glasgow and 7/2 to win the Premier League for the first time.

Michael van Gerwen is the outright favourite at 2/1 to land a record-equalling sixth title with Clayton - who tops the table - at 5/2.

James Wade, the real surprise package of this year's Premier League, looks a certainty to make the play-offs and is 9/2 to win the title for a second time.

Of the four men outside the play-offs, the best-placed for a late charge is Joe Cullen, who is five points behind Wright, but who can't afford any slip-ups.

And that means he really needs to beat Van Gerwen in Glasgow where he knows the crowd are going to be right behind the Dutchman - and against him.

The Englishman is a 2/1 shot, Van Gerwen at 2/5, but Rockstar has already proved he can overcome the Green Machine and a partisan crowd when he took out MVG in the final in Rotterdam on Night Seven.

The debutant is 5/2 to make the play-offs and he'll still believe it's possible.

Van Gerwen heads for Glasgow with spirits soaring, however, after winning the Austrian Darts Open over the weekend, a seventh event win in the last two months.

Clayton aiming to keep up the pressure

It's incredible to think that this is the 18th running of the Premier League, yet only three men have ever topped the table at the end of the regular campaign.

Phil Taylor and Van Gerwen have done it eight times each, Glen Durrant in 2020 - the year he would win the title.

Clayton, the reigning champion, is on course to become the fourth man to achieve the feat with a four-point cushion over Van Gerwen going into this week's quarter-final with Wade, a repeat of last week's final in Dublin which the left-hander won.

Clayton is 1/2 to avenge that loss over Wade, who gets a 13/8 quote.

The fourth game is another Anglo-Welsh dust-up with Gerwyn Price taking on Michael Smith, two men who are all but out of the running for the play-offs - though a five-point haul in Glasgow might just change the mindset going into the last three weeks of the campaign.

Price is 8/15 to take care of 6/4 shot Smith, who snapped a five-week losing streak in Dublin by reaching the semis.
