Aussie Rules: Pressure builds on Cameron as GWS crash

Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron admits the pressure is on but says both he and his players have to meet the challenge head on following a 67-point defeat against Melbourne.

The Giants were hoping to make the top eight and play finals but following a 1-4 start to the 2022 AFL campaign that looks a long way off right now.

Demons run wild

GWS had kept themselves in touch against the reigning premiers in the first half of the game but let it all slide in the third quarter as the Demons ran away with it.

Melbourne booted 10 goals in the third and Cameron was left to rue a poor quarter from his side.

Cameron cool over contract talks

"We're flat. We're in a form slump. We're 1-4, we're not going to hide away from it. We contributed to the third quarter. It's not just Melbourne, we made some poor decisions, we gave the ball back to them, they punished us, end of story," Cameron told reporters after the game.

"We've got some players down on form. We're in a form slump and in this you have to front it head on. We're not going to run away from it.”

Out of contract

Cameron is out of contract at the end of the season and his chances of getting a new one will not look great unless they can turn things around quickly.

"If I sat here and said there's not pressure on the senior coach I'd be lying to you, wouldn't I? There's pressure everywhere. Is there going to be more scrutiny on us next week? Absolutely," he added.
