Europa League - Football: Matchday three preview

After a heavy derby loss in the Premier League, Manchester United will hope to return to winning ways in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Red Devils head to Cyprus to face Omonia Nicosia on a busy night of action in Europe's second-tier competition.

Arsenal, who didn't feature on Matchday two, are also in action when they welcome Group A leaders Bodo/Glimt to the Emirates.

Elsewhere, there's a tasty-looking clash at the Stadio Olimpico when Roma host Real Betis and Monaco are looking to boost their hopes of reaching the knockout phase when Trabzonspor head to France.

Omonia Nicosia 14/1, Draw 5/1, Manchester United 2/9

Manchester United fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Real Sociedad in their opening Europa League engagement this term, however, they bounced back to seal a 2-0 victory at Sheriff Tiraspol last time out.

But they suffered a confidence-hitting 6-3 loss at Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday and will be under the spotlight when they head to Cyprus.

They can take some comfort from their away form prior to that defeat at the Etihad, having enjoyed a three-game winning run across all competitions without conceding a goal.

Thursday's clash with Omonia is expected to offer United the perfect opportunity to get back on track.

I Basilissa prop up Group E after failing to pick up a single point from their opening two outings and improving on that record will likely be tough when the Red Devils come to town.

Managed by former Celtic boss Neil Lennon, Omonia have registered just one goal in the competition, losing 2-1 when visiting Real Sociedad, and they've conceded five times.

They currently sit fourth in the Cypriot top-flight after winning their last two fixtures, however, transferring that form into Europe has proven extremely difficult.

United boss Erik ten Hag is expected to rotate his XI for this clash with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial likely to come in.

Ronaldo was restricted to a place on the bench in Sunday's loss to City and will be chomping at the bit to get some action.

The Portuguese ace struck from the penalty spot in the win over Sheriff and can be backed at 8/13 to score anytime, while Martial, who netted twice from the bench against City, is 21/20 to score anytime.

Omonia's struggles in front of goal suggest they could find it difficult to get on the scoresheet, therefore, a United win to nil at 5/6 looks an attractive option.

Arsenal face Norwegian test

Arsenal v Bodo/Glimt

Arsenal 2/9, Draw 6/1, Bodo/Glimt 9/1

Arsenal have been flying this season and Mikel Arteta will be desperate to keep that momentum going in the Europa League.

The Gunners didn't feature on Matchday 2 after their home meeting with PSV was postponed so they've only played one fixture in the competition so far.

They did win that clash, though, beating FC Zurich 2-1 in Switzerland and they sit second in Group A with Thursday's opponents Bodo/Glimt currently leading the way.

Bodo/Glimt don't have a long and historic reputation on the European stage but they did upset some big names last season.

The Norwegian club reached the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League last term after seeing off Celtic and AZ in the knockout phase, while they also stunned Roma 6-1 in the group stage, although the Italian outfit had the last laugh as they sealed a 5-2 aggregate win after the clubs met again in the last-eight.

With that in mind, it seems fair to suggest Bodo/Glimt, who earned a 1-1 draw at PSV earlier this campaign, have the tools to make life difficult for Arsenal on Thursday.

Ultimately, Arsenal should have enough to get over the line but a home win with both teams to score, available at 8/5, looks the way to go.

Indeed, four of Arsenal's last five victories across all competitions have seen both teams hit the back of the net.

Home comforts key for Roma

Roma v Real Betis

Stadio Olimpico, Rome

Roma 5/6, Draw 11/4, Real Betis 10/3

Roma are already playing catch-up in Group C after picking up three points from their opening two games, having lost to Ludogorets before beating HJK.

They face their biggest rivals for top spot on Thursday with Real Betis, who currently sit at the summit, heading to Rome.

Betis have sealed back-to-back wins and would likely be satisfied with a point in this away clash to keep themselves in the driving seat.

Roma's home form leads to the feeling that they should be able to earn three points, winning three of their four when hosting this campaign.

Jose Mourinho will also be buoyed by their performance on Saturday when Roma came from behind to seal a 2-1 win at Inter Milan.

Summer signing Paulo Dybala netted in that win to take his season tally to five across all competitions.

The Argentinean also registered in the 3-0 triumph over HJK on Matchday two and he is 11/8 to score anytime against Betis.
