Aussie Rules: Ratten expecting tough Roos test

St Kilda coach Brett Ratten is expecting a “hot” game against North Melbourne on Sunday and insists his side will not be taking anything for granted.

The Saints are sitting pretty in seventh spot on the AFL ladder having won seven of their 10 games so far this season, but the same cannot be said of the Kangaroos who have won just one.

Roos in the spotlight

North Melbourne have been in the media spotlight this week with club great Wayne Carey describing the club as “broken”. It lead to the club CEO coming out and offering support to under-fire coach David Noble.

Despite their struggles Ratten is expecting a tough game. Especially considering it will be captain Jack Ziebell’s 250th AFL game and they will be keen to get a win for him.

Ratten is wary

North Melbourne impressed in spells against Melbourne Demons last week, while St Kilda were not at their best in the win over Adelaide. So Ratten is taking nothing for granted.

"Let's take out the media conversation - when you have a player of Jack Ziebell's quality, captain of their footy club, 250 games, you're going to get a big spike just even around that," Ratten stold reporters.

"It's going to be a hot game. Their form last week against Melbourne, halfway through the third quarter, it's six points the difference, it's game-on.

"They showed some really good signs in the way they moved the ball, the way they performed against the best in the competition. We have to be ready for the fight."
