Adelaide United have found a replacement for Stefan Mauk with English forward Zac Clough set to arrive on a free transfer following his departure from Carlisle United.
Adelaide are priced at 5/6 to finish in the top six of the A-League in the 2022 campaign and will have Clough on board to help them after coach Carl Veart confirmed the deal.
Clough has played for the likes of Bolton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest in the English Football League and was with League Two Carlisle before being released.
The 26-year-old has plenty of pace and eye for goal and Veart believes he will be the ideal replacement for Mauk who has signed for J2 League outfit Fagiano Okayama.
Veart relieved at late fightback
"All I can say is we have found a replacement," Veart told reporters. "He's at a good age and he has played at a good level and is an exciting player.
"I have always said we needed a creative player and it's a creative player we have found so we're really looking forward to him getting into the country and playing."
The goods news for the Reds is they still have Mauk for two more games before he heads to Japan and he will take his place in the starting line-up against Sydney FC after recovering from a stomach bug.
"I feel sorry for Stef, to have a two-and-a-half hour bus trip where he's sitting on the bus toilet is not pleasant," Veart added.
"My understanding is we have got him for this game and next week's game and I think that is the cut-off date for the visa, so we're fortunate enough that we get him for two more games."
