Adelaide United ensured they will be playing finals football this season after beating Brisbane Roar 2-0 on Saturday night.
The Reds are priced at to win the A-League grand final and can take heart from the victory that keeps them fourth on the ladder with one game remaining for them.
Adelaide dominated in the first half and found themselves 2-0 in front thanks to goals from George Blackwood and Hiroshi Ibusuki.
Blackwood’s goal came when he headed home a Craig Goodwin cross and with finals approaching Reds boss Carl Veart says that is something they have been working on.
Milicic looks to go out with a bang
"We know that finals football is very tight and very close," Veart told reporters after the game. "We've done a lot of work in the last two or three weeks on our crossing and on our movement. We've really had a strong focus on that in the last two or three weeks."
Adelaide could not find another goal after the break to put the game completely to bed and Roar put the pressure on in the final 30 minutes. However Veart’s men dug in to secure a clean sheet and another big three points.
"The first half was excellent, that was some of our best football this year," Veart added. "Second half, the first ten to 15 minutes was good and we just needed to get that third goal. Then after that, we made it very difficult for ourselves in the last 30."
