Australian Football: Reds secure Spanish duo

Adelaide United have been handed a boost for the 2022/23 A-League campaign with the news that Spanish duo Juande and Javi Lopez have signed contract extensions.

Both players were set to fall out of contract at the end of the month but United have managed to secure their services for at least one more season after they penned one-year deals.

Juande excited

Central midfielder Juande had an impressive 2021/22 campaign when making 27 appearances as the Reds made finals. And he is excited to see what next season will bring.

“We have a competitive squad and I’m confident we have what it takes to challenge for the title again after coming so close this year,” he told the club’s website. “My family is also really happy and we love this city, so it was an easy decision to stay.”

Lopez was also outstanding at right-back and he too predicts another strong season for the Reds.

“I’m so happy to be staying with this great Club,” he added. “We have a special team and were so close to making the Grand Final that I think we can continue to build something very special.”

Veart delight

Boss Carl Veart has saluted the quality and experience that both players bring to the pitch and dressing room.

“Their performances on the pitch were first class this past season and the experience and knowledge they impart on our younger players has been invaluable,” he added.
