Horse Racing Tips - Racing: Robbie Wilders' Newmarket tips

It's Fillies' Mile day at Newmarket on Friday and the Racing Post's Robbie Wilders pinpoints three each-way bets.

1.50 Newmarket
Wodao @ 9/1
1pt each-way

3.35 Newmarket
Bright Diamond @ 8/1
1pt each-way

5.50 Newmarket
Ville De Grace @ 5/1
2pts each-way

Wodao can keep Cornwallis in Ireland

Michael O'Callaghan captured the Cornwallis Stakes (1.50) last season with Twilight Jet and has another leading candidate this season in Crispy Cat, who drops down in class after running well on a few occasions in defeat at Group 2 level.

Crispy Cat is feared, but at the prices I’d rather side with Wodao to keep the prize in Ireland for Donnacha O'Brien. He makes fair each-way appeal with 365 paying four places.

Wodao returns from a 100-day break and his defeat of The Antarctic, who was second in the Group 1 Middle Park recently, reads well. The mid-season break could have done my selection the world of good.

He dug in gamely there and the performance was a marked improvement on his previous eighth in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot, in which he probably found the ground too quick for his liking.

Diamond a bright alternative to Commissioning

Commissioning heads the betting for the bet365 Fillies' Mile (3.35) and looked a potential superstar when sprinting clear in the Rockfel Stakes at this course last time.

She recorded a superior Racing Post Rating to each of the last nine Rockfel winners, but odds-on quotes are putting me off and Rockfel winners don't have a great record in this.

The make-up of this race makes an each-way bet quite appealing providing the eight stand their ground, and Bright Diamond looks the one with the strongest claims to capitalise if Commissioning isn't as special as her price implies she is.

Bright Diamond ran out an exceptional nine-length winner of a novice on the July course on her debut in August and should probably be arriving here with an unbeaten record.

She can be marked up for her staying-on third at Goodwood last time as she missed the kick and was held up off a slow pace, but made exceptional late ground as the prominent fillies simply got first run on her.

Clearly after just two runs she is deeply unexposed and her experience of Newmarket is a positive.

Trainer Karl Burke has a lot of smart juveniles in his care and Bright Diamond could be the pick of the bunch.

Grace can outclass opponents

The Group 3 Newmarket Pony Academy Pride Stakes (5.50) looks a decent opportunity for Ville De Grace, who landed this last season for Sir Michael Stoute when accounting for the smart Lilac Road.

Ville De Grace has failed to kick on quite as anticipated this year but she has been campaigned sparingly.

In fairness to this four-year-old, her nose defeat at the hands of subsequent Group 1 winner Dreamloper in the Dahlia Stakes reads excellently, while her fifth in the Group 2 Middleton Stakes next time is forgiven as the race was slowly run.

Ville De Grace is expected to step forward from her return from 125 days off at Yarmouth in September and although she has three-quarters of a length to find with the reopposing Shaara, I expect her to do so on 2lb better terms.

I'm shocked she's available at an each-way price with 365 paying four places at the time of writing and I fancy her to go off favourite for a trainer who excels with patiently handled older horses.
