Australian Football: Rowles tipped for Euro switch

Central Coast Mariners midfielder Nikolai Muller says it is only a matter of time before teammate Kye Rowles gets snapped up by a European club.

The Mariners are looking to finish in the top six of the A-League this season and Rowles is having another impressive campaign in the heart of the defence.

Socceroos call-up

The 23-year-old has really caught the eye over the last couple of weeks when earning a call-up to the Socceroos squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Vietnam and Oman.

The defender then shared the Mark Viduka medal with Melbourne Victory midfielder Jake Brimmer after another impressive performance in the FFA Cup final on Saturday.

German star Muller says it is about time Rowles starts to get noticed and believes he will soon become the latest A-League player to head to Europe.

"You think 'oh he's a good player' but you don't recognise it when you're at another club, but when you train with him every day and see in the games, he's an amazing player and with his age, I was so happy for him that he got an invite from the national team," Muller said.

"He's a great player and I'm pretty sure his next step would be Europe. I'm 100 per cent (on that)."

Montgomery backing

Mariners coach Nick Montgomery, who played over 350 games in England with the likes of Sheffield United, also believes Rowles has what it takes to make it overseas.

"Kye's on the correct path for any young player," he added. "He's got the international recognition and I've no doubt Kye will go to a big club at some point. Right now he's a Central Coast Mariners player and we're delighted to have him."

The Mariners are back in action when they take on Macarthur FC in Gosford on Thursday night and Rowles will again be leading from the back.
