Australian Football: Rudan excited for the future

Western Sydney Wanderers coach Mark Rudan is excited for the future and say he plans to build a side that the fans will be proud of.

The Wanderers have had another disappointing campaign. They started it with Carl Robinson as coach and the plan was to make finals. However it all went pear shaped early.

Rudan handed the reins

Following a disappointing start to the season Robinson was relieved of his duties and Rudan was brought in to steady the ship.

Despite signs of improvement they could not make finals and now all eyes will be on next season. Rudan is under contract until the end of the 2023/24 season and he knows exactly what he wants to do.

"Getting the team right and the staff around me right," he said. "There's going to be changes, that's clear. We're building a team that our fans are going to be extremely excited about. I know exactly how we're going to go about it."

Rudan was speaking after they wrapped up the season with a 1-1 draw against Macarthur on Sunday.

Milicic departs

There are no such plans for Ante Milicic as the game on Sunday was his last in charge of Macarthur, the club he has coached for the last two seasons.

"I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't get a copy of this game and review it as I normally do," he told reporters after the game. "So we'll see how we go tomorrow. I'm very thankful for the opportunity (Macarthur) has given me."
