Aussie Rules: Saints ace Clark facing six weeks out

St Kilda have been hit by the news Hunter Clark is facing six weeks on the sidelines, while there are also doubts over the fitness of Jack Billings.

The Saints are priced at 8/5 to finish in the top eight of the AFL in 2022 and they could do without injuries to key players on the eve of the new season.

Clark blow

Clark is no stranger to injuries after suffering a broken jaw in 2021 and is now looking at more time in the treatment room after picking up a shoulder injury in Saturday night's AAMI Community Series win over Essendon.

Speaking after the game coach Brett Ratten confirmed the player will be missing for the early rounds of the 2022 AFL season.

And just to make matters worse Billings had to leave the field with a hamstring injury and will require a scan to discover the full extent of the damage.

"Billings will get a scan on his hamstring and there'll be something there I suggest and Clark will be probably six weeks with an AC [joint]/shoulder [injury]," Ratten told reporters. "He might require some surgery I'm not sure completely there but scans will reveal that. He will be out for at least a month."

Fearless approach

Clark has a fearless approach to the game that is probably leading to some of the injuries he is sustaining but Ratten says they will not be removing that from his game.

"We don't want to take that away from him and that's the stuff we're pushing him to keep doing as a player. It's a bit of a signature for him to do that. I think it shows great courage for him to do what he did, especially after that broken jaw," he added.

"He's maybe a little bit too brave at times but he was a little bit unlucky. I think it was the right angle and he had [his arm] stretched out so he's a bit unfortunate."
