NRL: Sea Eagles ace fired up for 2022

Manly Sea Eagles prop Toff Sipley is fired up ahead of the new season and is determined to bounce back from the disappointment of being dropped for last season's NRL finals campaign.

The Sea Eagles are priced at 13/2 to win the NRL grand final in 2022 and will again be pushing for a place in the top four at the very least.

Strong campaign

Inspired by the likes of Tom Trbojevic, Manly had a big season before eventually losing in finals and Sipley played his part when appearing in 20 NRL matches.

However coach Des Hasler opted to overlook him for the three games of the finals campaign and Sipley admits that was hard to take.

Sipley had a great year in the Manly jersey after not playing at all the previous season and says he is now fired up to raise his game to another level completely.

"I felt like I did my part to be able to play in the finals, but it is what it is. I sat down with Des and he was really opened as to why I didn’t play," Sipley said. "It was kind of a blessing in disguise. The silver lining I take from it is that it has put a chip on my shoulder this season to show why I should have played in the finals.

"I can’t be too disappointed because we had such a good team and it was hard to get picked in it."

Strong mindset

Sipley is also keen to continue with the strong mindset that served him so well in 2021 when it looked as though he could struggle to get minutes.

"If you look at how I was going into 2021,  I was probably close to giving it all up and quitting footy after not getting one NRL game in 2020," he added.

"To get 20 games last year was due to the mindset I had of just going in and enjoying my footy. If I have that same mindset for 2022, hopefully I play 20 games or more."
