Pete Carroll said "rocket" running back Ken Walker III excited the Seattle Seahawks coaching staff on day one of rookie minicamp and that his familiarity with a pro-style offense will aid his transition to the NFL.
The Seahawks spent one of their second-round picks on the former Michigan State rusher, who won the Doak Walker Award as college football's best running back in 2021 and is 10/1 to follow it up with the Offensive Rookie of the Year title.
In a light 45-minute workout at the Seahawks practice facility on Friday, Walker made a good impression on Carroll and could challenge veteran Rashaad Penny to be Seattle's every-down back as the season draws closer.
"Ken, he took off now," Carroll said, via the Seattle Times. "He's a rocket. He caught the ball really well today, too, which we're really excited about."

Walker, who ran for 1,636 yards in 12 games last year for Michigan State, is familiar with most of the concepts of Seattle's offense from his college days.
"That was a big thing for me, when I went to Michigan State I wanted to get in that pro-style offense," he told reporters.
"And, you know, when I was at Michigan State, it made a difference because we were able to watch them on NFL teams. And it was just like our offense, just different terminology."
"Coming to us, he even understood the terminology to some extent, too," added Carroll of the 21-year-old, who may not project to be a third-down back after posting only 13 catches for 89 yards and one touchdown last season.
"So we'll expect no issues there at all. He'll be able to 'go'. He's very bursty, very quick."
