Australian Racing: Slipper warm up for Queen Of The Ball

Queen Of The Ball will take her place in the Widden Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday as she continues her progress towards the Golden Slipper Stakes.

The Richard and Michael Freedman-trained filly is currently a 50/1 chance to make it back-to-back wins for the stable in the feature at Rosehill on 19th March after winning the contest last year with Stay Inside.

Freedman happy with break

A daughter of I Am Invincible, she has enjoyed a break since her debut second in the Kirkham Plate at Randwick back in October.

"She ran a super race first-up and, probably by the fact she did a few things wrong up the straight, there'd be an argument to say she cost herself the race," Michael Freedman said.

"She's come back more experienced and her trial last week was very good. We've added the winkers (today) to give her a little more focus and confidence."

King lands Queen Of The Ball ride

Queen Of The Ball has drawn in barrier one and will be ridden by Rachel King as she takes on 10 rivals.

"You'd be looking to be positive and take up a spot where she can just travel off the speed or thereabouts," Freedman added.

Out of the Listed-winning Fastnet Rock mare Miss Debutante, Queen Of The Ball is a first foal and is a half-sister to unraced fillies by Zoustar and Written Tycoon.
