Aussie Rules: Sloane out for Adelaide

Adelaide will be without Rory Sloane when they face Port Adelaide in the Showdown on Friday night but Rory Laird is back fit and available.

The Crows are priced at 21/10 to win the derby clash at the Adelaide Oval and there is mixed news on the injury front for coach Matthew Nicks.

Sloane ruled out

Sloane has been touch and go since picking up a groin injury in the loss to Collingwood last week but the Crows have finally declared that he is not fit enough to play.

The news is a setback but Adelaide are boosted by the return of Laird who has recovered from a broken hand and will play his first game of the season against Port.

McAsey setback for Crows

"He (Laird) has done a fair bit (of ball-handling) over the last week," Nicks told reporters ahead of the game. "We're pretty confident he is going to come in and be okay as far as the hand goes, there's no issues around that."

Ricciuto spray

The Crows have also had to listen to Adelaide great Mark Ricciuto rip into the club this week and will be looking to prove him wrong against the Power.

"They can't kick, they can't handball, they can't kick at goal, they're giving away free kicks - they really can't do anything worse," the former Brownlow Medallist and Crows director told his radio employer Triple M.

However Nicks played the spray down and accepts his side have not been good enough.

"We're on the same page as to where we are at as a footy club," Nicks added. "And if you think we are not having those conversations, well, you're kidding yourself.”
