NRL: Storm secure trio to new deals

Melbourne Storm have made a big statement by securing the futures of Jahrome Hughes, Harry Grant and Xavier Coates who have all penned new deals with the club.

The Storm's aim is to win the 2022 NRL grand final but with the trio locked in are gearing up for success for many years to come.

Grant commits

Dummy-half Grant had been heavily linked with a move to the NRL’s new franchise the Dolphins, who will enter the competition from the start of the 2023 campaign.

They are said to have made a huge offer but Grant has turned it down and will stay with the Storm until the end of 2025 at least.

Meanwhile Hughes and Coates have both committed until 2026 and chairman Matt Tripp said the signings show exactly where the Storm want to head to.

“To have players the calibre of Harry, Jahrome and Xavier all committed to our club for a long period gives us great confidence heading into the future,” Tripp said.

“We now have a quality spine, our skipper, an exciting winger and some great young talent all locked away for a few years.

“They are quality players and, more importantly, quality people. We are proud of the strong culture we have built across the entire club and will always work hard to keep good people.”

Munster doubts

There is now a question mark over the future of Cameron Munster who has yet to sign and could now be heading for the exit door. Again the Dolphins are keen and could offer him a bumper deal to head to Redcliffe.
