Sydney FC have confirmed the departure of young defender Joel King who is joining Danish outfit Odense for a six-figure transfer fee.
The Sky Blues are out to win the 2021/22 A-League grand final but will have to do it without the services of King who has grabbed the opportunity of a lifetime.
King has been a revelation for Sydney since breaking into the defence in the 2018/19 campaign and his performances have caught the eye of teams in Europe.
Odense are one such club and King, who won his first cap for the Socceroos this week, says the opportunity is too good to turn down.

"It’s a life changing opportunity for me and I am extremely excited by the challenge," King told the club's website. "I have loved every minute of my time at Sydney FC playing through the Academy and for the A-League team.
"I’ve learned an incredible amount and without that help from my coaches and team-mates I wouldn’t have this opportunity.
"I will be forever grateful to Sydney FC, my club who I have supported since I was five years old, and I wish everyone continued success."
Sky Blues boss Steve Corica is understandably disappointed to lose a talented young player but is happy for him and says he deserves his chance overseas.
"It’s not great timing for us halfway through the season and it doesn’t leave us much time to bring in a replacement, but we can’t stand in his way," Corica added.
"We are sad to see him go but we are immensely proud of him and what he has achieved with us, so we wish him the best."
