Australian Football: Sydney up for Western test

Sydney FC boss Steve Corica says his side will stick to what they know when they face high-flying Western United on Saturday afternoon.

Sydney are gunning for the grand final this season but they are playing catch-up following an inconsistent first half of the A-League campaign.

Western flying high

The same cannot be said of Western United who sit joint-top of the ladder with Melbourne City after an electric start to the campaign.

Western's success has been built on a solid defence that leaks very few goals but Corica says there will be no real changes to the way Sydney go about their business at Kogarah Oval.

Corica has praised the way John Aloisi's side play but there will be no big shift in tactics to deal with them.

"We're going to play our normal style of football and be aggressive and attacking and I'm sure they'll do what they've been doing," Corica said. "They're defensively very strong and compact and we'll have to break them down.

"They have defended well and especially at the start of the season when they were winning 1-0 and now they're scoring more goals. Johnny is doing well and they've had a very good start to the season. We're trying to catch up now."

Duo return boost

Meanwhile Sydney are also boosted by the news Anthony Caceres and Milos Ninkovic both return to action following injuries.

"Ninko's hamstring has healed up really well," Corica added. "Caceres is back as well and the bruising on his foot is a lot better.

"Kosta (Barbarouses) is obviously away with the New Zealand team and he'll miss the game but other than that everyone else is pretty good."
