Super League - Rugby League: Team of the Season so far

As the Super League season edges closer towards the business end of the campaign, it's time to look at our team of the season so far.

Full-back: Jai Field - Wigan Warriors

The joint-second highest tryscorer in the competition, Field is enjoying an impressive first campaign in Super League following his switch from Parramatta Eels over the off-season.

With agility, awareness and pace to burn, Field already has 14 Super League tries to his name.

Field has guided Wigan to their first piece of silverware in the Challenge Cup and will be determined to help the Warriors win the Grand Final this season, for which they are 7/2 to achieve.

Winger: Tommy Makinson - St Helens

One of the most consistent performers over a number of seasons, St Helens flyer Makinson continues to produce remarkable numbers.

Leading the tryscoring standings with 16, Makinson may have just entered his 30s but he is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Only Leeds Rhinos' winger Ash Handley has made more metres than Makinson this season, with the Saints star covering 2081m with ball in hand.

Winger: Ken Sio - Salford Red Devils

Sat alongside Field on 14 tries going into the next round of Super League fixtures, Sio is an unstoppable force at times on the wing for Salford.

Moving from the Newcastle Knights to the Red Devils back in 2019, Sio has been prolific in his second spell in Super League.

With 53 tries in 63 appearances for Salford, Sio will be a key figure in making sure the Red Devils don't get dragged down into a relegation dogfight this season.

Centre: Mark Percival - St Helens

Much like team-mate Makinson, Percival is enjoying another strong season with Super League frontrunners St Helens, who are 1/1 to win the Grand Final this term.

The 28-year-old made his Saints debut back in 2013 and is now a mainstay in the side with over 170 appearances for the Merseyside outfit.

A strong figure in the impressive Saints' backline, Percival will be hoping to land yet another Super League title under head coach Kristian Woolf.

Centre: Kai Pearce-Paul - Wigan Warriors

One of the rising talents in Super League, Pearce-Paul looks to be a star in the making after an impressive season and a half with Wigan.

With a powerful and elusive running style similar to that of former Leeds centre Kallum Watkins, Pearce-Paul's attacking play is a nightmare for defenders.

The 21-year-old is a special talent and it will be interesting to see how he develops over the coming years.

Stand-off: Jonny Lomax - St Helens

Another name who has made a host of Super League Dream Teams, there are few players you would want in your corner over Lomax.

A fierce competitor and someone who is at the heart of everything that's good about St Helens, the 31-year-old is enjoying another stellar season.

Lomax will again be vital if Saints are to win the Super League title for a fourth year on the bounce.

Scrum-half: Tui Lolohea - Huddersfield Giants

Huddersfield have been the surprise package of the Super League campaign so far and Lolohea has been a standout performer for the Giants.

Although playing at full-back in recent weeks, Lolohea would not get in ahead of Field but needs to make our team of the season.

Lolohea has played plenty of rugby at scrum-half and his creativity was key in helping Huddersfield reach the Challenge Cup final, only to fall short against Wigan.

Loose Forward: Joe Westerman - Castleford Tigers

Ranked seventh with the most tackles in Super League this season, Westerman just gets the nod for our loose forward spot.

Westerman has made 488 tackles this season, while also carrying for 1583m, in what has been an impressive shift so far for the Tigers star.

Second Row: Liam Farrell - Wigan Warriors

Another experienced player to make the cut, Farrell continues to be a physical presence and a talisman in the Wigan pack.

Farrell has 422 tackles to his name this season and has carried for 1614m, at an average of 8.11m a carry.

In any Super League game, you would rather have Farrell with you, than against you.

Second Row: Chris McQueen - Huddersfield Giants

McQueen has been another important figure in the rise of the Giants this season, with Huddersfield now 10/1 to win the Grand Final.

With six tries already in Super League this term, McQueen not only gets the hard work done but also finds himself crossing the tryline for the Giants.

Prop: Alex Walmsley - St Helens

A key figure for St Helens and a leader on and off the field, Walmsley optimises what a Saints' prop should be about.

Physical and seemingly tireless, Saints will rely heavily on his unseen work if they are to reach Old Trafford for the final once again.

Prop: Chris Hill - Huddersfield Giants

A key figure for so many years at Warrington Wolves, Hill is now enjoying his new surroundings at the John Smith's Stadium.

Huddersfield did well to secure Hill's services and he has been repaying their faith with some excellent displays in both the Challenge Cup and Super League this season.

Hooker: Michael McIlorum - Catalans Dragons

After years in the wilderness, McIlorum's performance in Perpignan this season have finally seen him called back up to the latest England squad.

An aggressive player who gives Catalans a bit of edge around the park, McIlorum just edges out Hull FC's Danny Houghton for the hooker spot.
