Wests Tigers star Adam Doueihi says his recovery from an ACL injury is going well and he hopes to be back in action ahead of schedule.
The Tigers are priced at 40/1 to win the 2022 NRL grand final and would love to have their talented playmaker back in action as soon as possible.
Doueihi was impressing in the 2021 campaign but his season came to a grinding halt in August when he suffered the serious season-ending knee injury.
The 23-year-old will not be ready for round one of the 2022 NRL season but he is confident of being back sooner than was originally expected.
"Everything is going as planned at the moment," Doueihi told SEN 1170. "Everything is on track, I met with the surgeon last week just for a check-up and he was really happy with where things were at.
"At about the eight, nine month mark I’ll go back and see him for sort of a strength test. He’ll have a list of boxes I need to tick, and as long as I tick all of them I’ll be good to go.
"I’m not exactly sure how many months or days yet, but (my return) should be somewhere in the middle of the front end of the season, I hope."
Jackson Hastings has returned to the NRL with the Tigers following a spell in the English Super League and is expected to take one spot in the halves alongside Luke Brooks while Doueihi remains on the sidelines.
And the Doueihi says Hastings is already impressing in pre-season.
"Jacko (Hastings) has been going good on the field," Doueihi added. "He’ll probably fill in to start with in that number six jersey. From all reports Hastings and Brooks have been going really good."
