Wests Tigers have secured the future of talented young prop Stefano Utoikamanu who has penned a new long-term deal with the NRL club.
The Tigers are priced at 40/1 to win the NRL Grand Final in 2022 but with Utoikamanu they believe they have a player who can help bring success for years to come.
The 21-year-old was already under contract for the 2022 and 2023 seasons but the Tigers were keen to tie him down for longer and he will now stay with the club until at least the end of 2025.
Utoikamanu made 21 appearances for the Tigers in 2021 and went on to secure a place in the side, while he also featured in the extended NSW squad for State of Origin III last season.
Utoikamanu has been tipped as a future leader of the Tigers pack and coach Michael Maguire is delighted to have him locked in for the next four seasons.
"We're all very pleased to see Stefano re-sign with Wests Tigers," Maguire said after the deal was announced.
"His decision to commit his future to Wests Tigers further highlights what we are building at the club and I'm sure that Stefano will play a big part in delivering that.
"He has continued to work hard at all aspects of his game, and I look forward to seeing him continue to improve over the coming seasons."
The Tigers have not played finals for 11 years but believe with players like Utoikaumanu on board they can soon end the drought.
"He is a great young man who constantly displays all the core values we want Wests Tigers to be known by, and I look forward to watching him play a leading role in the success of this club moving forward," CEO Justin Pascoe said.
