Esports: VALORANT side Envy set to play under OpTic Gaming banner

Esports organization Envy have rebranded their VALORANT team to now play under the iconic banner of OpTic Gaming.

In the VALORANT VCT NA Challengers, OpTic Gaming can be backed at 2/7 to beat Rise, who are 5/2 to prevail.

A new era for VALORANT

The organizations had merged together in 2021 but up until now both the VALORANT team and Overwatch League side Dallas Fuel had not been affected by their joining.

But the VALORANT North America Champions Tour Stage One Challengers event will now feature OpTic Gaming rather than Envy.

OpTic Gaming were invited to the Stage One Challengers tournament rather than having to go through either of the two open qualifiers and will play under their new banner for the first time on Sunday.

Tournament rundown

They have been drawn in Group B along with Sentinels, NRG, Knights, Version1 and Rise, against whom they will start their campaign.

In Group A, 100 Thieves, Cloud9, XSET, Luminosity Gaming, Evil Geniuses and The Guard make up the rest of the teams competing.

The top four teams in each section will advance to the playoff stage.

The acquisition by OpTic means they are now associated with one of the strongest VALORANT rosters in the North American region, featuring the likes of in-game leader Pujan "FNS" Mehta and Jaccob "yay" Whiteaker among others.

The opening match of the VALORANT Champions Tour Stage One Challengers pits Cloud9 against 100 Thieves on Friday night.

Confirming the news on social media, OpTic Gaming wrote on Twitter: "Welcome, #OpTicVALORANT @FNS @yayFPS @victorwong @Crashies @Marved6 @chetsingh"

OpTic player "yay", meanwhile, tweeted: "OpTic got me into Esports - glad to be representing them now."
