Australian Football: Victory on a high after Bulls wins

Tony Popovic says Melbourne Victory’s confidence is sky high after they kept up the pressure at the top of the A-League with a 4-1 win over Macarthur on Friday night.

Victory are priced at 25/1 to win the A-League minor premiership and sit in third place on the ladder, five points behind leaders Melbourne City with a game in hand.

Unbeaten run

Victory have not lost in 12 games and even if they miss out on the premiers plate they should be high on confidence going in to the finals.

Ben Folami and Jake Brimmer had Victory 2-0 up after 53 minutes before the home side pulled a goal back through Craig Noone.

However further goals by Roderick Miranda and Josh Brillante late in the game wrapped up another crucial three points.

"With every result, we grow with confidence," said Victory's coach Tony Popovic. "We are 12 undefeated, it's another fantastic away win against a team that obviously has a lot to fight for.

"We should have scored more goals in the first half. So that's an area that when we're on top we have to improve but I think overall we deserve the three points."

Quick turnaround

Victory now face another challenge. They have to head straight to Queensland to take on Brisbane on Monday in a game that kicks off at 2pm.

"It's a really short turnaround," Popovic added. "I don't quite understand how it's at 2 o'clock on Monday but it's another challenge."
