NFL - US Sports: Waddle talks up Hill partnership

Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is looking forward to getting down to work with new Miami Dolphins recruit Tyreek Hill when the AFC East team hold their first OTAs of the season next week.

The Fins made Hill - 33/1 to be named the Offensive Player of the Year - their most high-profile signing in years when they traded five draft picks, including first and second-round picks this year to get him from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Miami now possess one of the most fearsome wide receiver combinations in the NFL with Waddle, their No.6 overall selection out of Alabama in 2021, excited by the prospect of pairing up with HIll.

Waddle relishes pacy pairing

"Honestly, we all know Cheetah is fast," Waddle said of Hill, via The Palm Beach Post.

"I'm known for being a speed guy. I think it's something that's going to be helpful to open up different things in the offense. Just knowing they have to respect the vertical threat."

It was noticeable that two of Miami's divisional rivals, the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets, both used their highest-value draft picks on cornerbacks this year as concerns grow about how to handle a potentially explosive Dolphins offense in development.

But although Waddle set an NFL rookie record with 102 catches, he was not satisfied with his first season as a pro.

Waddle looking for better

Two stat lines in particular irked Waddle, as he finished no higher than 109th in the NFL with 9.8 yards per catch and 104th in the league at 4.2 yards after the catch.

"Knowledge of the game, identifying defenses faster," he cited as areas he could improve from season one to two. "I think, honestly, just being yourself, trusting what you see and hitting it."
